Triple Panes of Glass
The triple-paned glass system starts with three panes of glass–a center pane of glass surrounded by two panes of double-strength glass. This provides increased strength while the center glass pane maximizes thermal performance and helps maintain inside temperatures at an ideal level.
Krypton Gas
Argon gas is an excellent choice for filling an I.G. unit because it is six times denser than air. But Krypton gas, which is almost 12 times denser than air, is the best choice. The triple-paned glass system contains a Krypton gas fill in two separate air spaces, so energy is conducted at an even lower rate and the number of convection currents is further reduced. The result is a per-inch R-value almost twice that of Argon gas.
Fill Type | R Value |
Argon | 8.9 |
Krypton | 16.7 |
Super Spacer
Some glass packages use steel or aluminum spacers. Because metal conducts energy quickly, this results in energy loss. But the triple-paned glass system employs the Super Spacer spacer system in tow I.G. units. Made of non-metallic solid silicone foam, Super Spacer does not conduct energy as quickly as aluminum or steel spacers. So conduction and condensation rates are dramatically lowered and interior glass surface temperatures remain higher than with traditional aluminum spacer systems. And for added protection, the solid silicone foam is both strong and flexible, so the I.G. unit maintains an airtight seal.
ProSolar Architectural-grade, Soft Coat Low E Glass from PPG
The triple-paned glass system features four layers of ProSolar architectural-grade, soft coat Low E glass from PPG. In warmer climates, Low E glass helps keep hot air out and cool air in. In cooler climates, Low E glass helps keep warm air in and cold air out. Architectural-grade, soft coat Low E glass from PPG also blocks about 60% of total solar energy and provides an improved U-value, while offering an exterior appearance similar to clear glass.
Double-Strength glass
For increased performance, triple-paned glass system features double-strength glass on both the inside and out-side panes. Double-strength glass provides greater structural integrity and added strength while helping to buffer the intrusion of unwanted ouside noise entering the home.
